Elmo Educates Kids About Zika first appeared on the Backyard Bug Patrol blog.
It’s not just adults that need to be educated about the dangers of mosquitoes and their ability to spread life threatening diseases, kids need to know what’s going on too and what better way for them to learn than from Sesame Street’s Elmo!
Sesame Street’s Elmo has long taught kids the alphabet. Now, the much-beloved character will educate children in Latin America and the Caribbean about avoiding mosquito bites and stopping the spread of Zika. The famous red Muppet will appear in two 30-second public service announcements created in English, Spanish and Portuguese. There are no plans yet to show them in the USA.
It’s a little disappointing that there are no plans yet for this method of educating children to be broadcast in the U.S. Teaching children about hazards from a young age can only be a positive step in educating our future generations. The production team of the established kids TV show certainly know how to send the right message across and often have the backing of many celebrities. Check out this message featuring Bruno Mars.
We all need educating and we all need to take action to ensure that we are doing the best we can to protect ourselves from mosquitoes.
As Zika virus is caused by bites of infected mosquitoes, members of the public have been increasingly concerned about avoiding mosquito bites as part of Zika prevention strategies.
If you have children of your own, make it your responsibility to educate them as best you can. Let’s make sure our future generations are full of the knowledge they will require in this ever hazardous world.
