Is That Itch More Than You Realize?

Is That Itch More Than You Realize? first appeared on the Backyard Bug Patrol blog.

Is that itch driving you crazy? Are you feeling as though you just can’t get any respite from that mosquito bite you’ve been unfortunate to receive? Have you thought about whether it could be more than just a bite? Perhaps you are suffering from an allergic reaction (that can sometimes be severe) or even worse there is always the possibility of a bite by an infected mosquito carrying disease.

This Is What Happens To Your Body When You Get A Mosquito Bite

It’s the height of summer, and naturally we’re going on hikes, camping trips and hanging out in our backyards. And the mosquitoes are loving it. On warm weather days around dusk and dawn, mosquitoes come out to play and bite unsuspecting humans everywhere

It’s important to be able to identify if a mosquito bite is something more than just an itchy area of your skin for a few days. Know the signs that point to something potentially serious and seek medical advice.

We can all take precautions to stop these pests from biting us. Protect ourselves by using a repellent containing deet, and on a wider scale, ensure your home is safe for your young ones and four legged friends to enjoy the outdoors by investing in a yard spray program.

Have fun this summer, but stay safe from heat, sunburn, bug bites

Mosquitoes can transmit West Nile virus, and other viruses; ticks can transmit Lyme disease and other serious infections; and fleas can transmit plague. To lower your risk for West Nile Virus, avoid mosquito bites when you spend time outside working or playing.

So if you do come across a bite on your own body or that of your child or pet, make sure you observe any reaction. Seek medical advice should you have any concerns. Don’t let the ‘itch’ be more than it is!
